ALPHA Integration Training -
The theoretical approach

The scientific findings of Dr. Roger Sperry formed the basis for the unique ALPHA Integration Training method, developed by arCanum.

The ALPHA Integration Training method was developed 10 years ago by the arCanum AKADEMIE in conjunction with an interdisciplinary team of experts. This expert team included:

  • neurologists
  • sound therapists
  • speech trainers
  • composers
  • texters
  • computer specialists

The ALPHA Integration Training method

  • aims specifically at the full capacity of both halves of the brain
  • uses picture-association learning techniques to actively incorporate the creative faculty in the learning process
  • combines two modern scientific learning techniques: superlearning and suggestopedia
  • synchronises phases of relaxation (autogenic training) with phases of activation
  • achieves this thanks to lively classroom techniques and easily remembered sensory stimuli.

In addition to Sperry’s findings the ALPHA Integration Training method is based on a differentiation of the 4 well-known learning styles:

Learning by hearing - the aural learning style

The aural-style learner can easily pick up, remember and also reproduce information heard. They can follow oral explanations and process them.

Learning by seeing - the visual learning style

The visual-style learner learns best by reading information and observing action processes. It is easier for them to remember content if they can visualise it in graphic or picture form.

Learning by discussion - the oral learning style

The oral-style learner learns best thanks to discussions and talks. For them a language confrontation with subject matter and the understanding of dialogues is very important.

Learning by movement - the kinetic learning style

The kinetic-style learner learns best by acting out a scenario. This helps them to comprehend. They understand explanations - ‘they feel right’.

However, almost every person combines at least 2 learning styles which are more or less pronounced, so a successful teaching method should never only serve one learning style, but should address as many sensory organs as possible with the objective of anchoring the information in several ways.

Explanations of terms

1) SUGGESTOPEDIA - thanks to the provision of visual, kinetic and aural stimuli a suggestopedically effective learning environment offers fun and games, movement and rest in a rhythmic interchange with a synchronised learning process.

The Alpha Integration Training method uses all elements of suggestopedia:

Motivation: negative self-assessment is alleviated, positive self-assessment is promoted

Music: is used as a catalyst for the long-term storage of knowledge

Games: learning games and spontaneous interpersonal actions foster the storage of knowledge

Mental Confrontation: critical confrontation with the subject matter fosters analytical thought and trains cognitive skills

Variety: dramatically harmonious phases of mental excitement and concentration with active moments of play help prevent tension

Work with partners and in small groups: fosters an exchange and common experiences

Stimuli: peripheral stimuli (for instance learning posters on the walls) support the memory rate thanks to automatic absorption of the subject matter.

Interior Design: it is no secret that light, temperature, table arrangement, colour scheme and smells have a substantial influence on learning performance.

2) SUPERLEARNING - a method which works with relaxation, but which only uses teaching media (text and audio) and no trainer, so the major element of suggestopedia is missing.
